My Personal Childhood Web

My family and how they were important during my childhood.

My mom-Mary Tinson.
My mom raised me as a single parent.  She was the main provider and often had to work two jobs to support me and my two sisters.  She made sure that we went to school, attended church, and learned right from wrong.  She depended on her family members to help raise us as most single parents do today.  My mom taught me how to do basic household chores that many young children are not learning to do in today’s society.  She showed me how to be strong and keep going no matter what life throws at you.  She made bad situations livable and never stopped when times were rough.

My sister-Simone Tinson.
Simone is the oldest of the three girls that my mom birth.  A lot of the responsibility for myself and my other sister fell on her when my mom was working.  Simone would make sure that I was taken care of and safe.  When she started her career as a cosmetologist, she would allow me to come to work with her.  She taught me how to wash hair and I was her shampoo girl for a while.  I learned basic hair care techniques just by watching her while she worked.  Simone showed me love and concern every day.

My sister-Jocelyn Lewis.
Jocelyn is the sister between me and Simone.  Therefore, when Simone was not available Jos would care for me.  She was a wiz at math and helped me with my homework as well.  She showed me love and encouraged me to be successful at my studies.

Cousin Connie and Aunt Billie

My grandaunt-Willie Ferrell.  We used to call her Aunt Billie.  She was my grandmother’s sister and often cared for me and my sisters.  She basically was the family matriarch and would teach me things that I needed to know as a young female.  The Bible says for the older women to teach the young ones the way.   Aunt Billie was an inspiration and a woman of strength, courage, and persistence.  She would support you in your efforts but didn’t bite her tongue when you did something wrong.  I remember staying with my aunt as a child while my mother was not able to care for me.
My cousin-Constance Yancy.  She is actually my mom’s cousin and Aunt Billie’s daughter.  I remember her caring for me when I was little as a help to my mom.  She was a constant figure in my life until she passed away. I still cry when I think of her.  She taught me persistence and perseverance because she never gave up on her dream.  She also was a person that showed true forgiveness for others wrong doings.  I remember that she used to spell words out so that we couldn’t understand what she was saying to other adults.  I recall the day when she realized that I could understand what she was spelling and all she could do was laugh.  Connie inspired me, my sisters, and our kids by being there no matter what.
My mom and my sisters constantly encourage me.  They call me to say that they love me or just to see how I am doing.  My mom is like a driving force and still encourages me to reach my highest potential.  She gives me her advice on everything whether I want to receive it or not.  My sister Jocelyn is my mom’s mini me!  She gives her advice or view on a subject and expects you to agree with her.  But it is all done in the name of love.  The legacy of Aunt Billy and Cousin Connie still lives on in my life.  I will never forget the love that they showed me during my childhood and adult life.
My father-Floyd Tinson

Although my dad was not an active participant in my childhood; he is definitely an important part of my adult life.  Our talks are very special and he is very motivating.  He always seems to call me when I need encouragement and I have never heard a judgmental word from him.
