As
mentioned in my last post; I am introducing my International contact Kerri
Jones who lives in the United Kingdom.
She is 41 years old with 6 kids, from 24
down to almost 6. She states that the
current qualifications required for preschool education is an NVQ (national
vocational qualification) which is gained while working in a nursery. She is
currently seeking to start this course and will be discussing this and other
courses with my local college in the next educational term. They are also required to obtain a
certificate of criminal records search to provide an element of proof of our
suitability to work with children.
Kerri shared her personal experience
with me in relation to the last topic of how poverty affects young children. She raised her 3 eldest partly in London, then
in Hertfordshire. In London she had some dealings with an organization called
"Newpin" who helped families facing a number of issues, some stemming
from poverty. She states that there are
a large number of charities that help families suffering through poverty, as
well as government organizations too.
They have a "social
services" department that is designed to protect children in all areas and
a "welfare" system to provide financial aid to unemployed or disabled
families.
Currently the area she lives in does
not have a large amount of poverty, so does not directly affect the children in
the nursery I help out in.
I met Kerri on Facebook. We play a lot of the games together and she answered my post asking for an International contact. She is currently on vacation with her family and was unable to submit information for this weeks topic.
