Overcoming the inequality of accessibility
This week my blog is focused on the inequality of
accessibility. Many children do not have
the experiences of Early Childhood programs due to their parents not having
access to the programs. Many parents do
not have the income available to enroll their children in early care programs. And then there is that set of parents that do
not meet certain guidelines that will help them to qualify for financial assistance
that assists in paying for early childhood educational programs.
As I was researched my web resources this week; I noticed an
announcement about new investments that President Obama has proposed to assist
in this very topic. The NBCDI (National
Black Child Development Institute has a news announcement that states the
President is proposing over $75 billion in “meaningful investments for our
youngest children.” (NBCDI, 2013). The program
that is receiving the most funding is the Pre-K plan called Preschool for All. This plan will address plans for the positive
growth and development of children starting at birth. The plan will expand voluntary home programs
like Hippy, encourage new partnerships with early childhood programs and the
Early Head Start Program that will assist with providing care and promoting
development for children from infancy to age three; provide new funding
partnerships that will help children in low to moderate income homes-giving
them access to pre-kindergarten programs that are high quality (this will
be funded by a cigarette tax); and the offering of $750 million to
states to help them with preschool development grants. The Head Start Program, child care, Part C
and Promise Neighborhoods programs will not be victim to their current
sequester cuts but will see increases in funding.
The NBCDI is asking for individuals to join others in
thanking President Obama and showing your support for this proposed new funding
by emailing lhogan@nbcdi.org as they are
working with others to be a great support system for this imitative.

Hi!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing information about the work carried out by NBCDI due to the grant by the President for early childhood programs. Accessibility of quality early childhood programs is the key for future success. My utopian vision is to have each and every child on this planet attend early childhood programs. The world will be such a different place......
Cheers!

Janine,
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the email address on how to respond to President Obama's proposal. I also heard about his budget proposal for the 2014 fiscal year and I am very excited about the possible funding increases that could occur in the field of early childhood education. I know that many programs are now struggling even more after the recent sequestration and these proposed increases would help salvage some programs that may be on the brink of closure.
